Disability Supports for Private Sector Business

Updated: Oct 19, 2019

Perhaps you or one of your employees has acquired a disability as a result of an accident, illness or aging.  Navigating the “Disability Quagmire” can be overwhelming. Ireland has come a long way in terms of Disability Business Inclusion. Mainstreaming disability in the workplace is fundamental to a societal change that will increase the number of people with disabilities participating. Opportunities with advanced technologies are limitless. Disclosure and bringing ones true and whole self to the workplace is key to good mental health and wellbeing. This can only be good for business and society as a whole.

In Season 1, Episode 1 of the DisruptAbility podcast, Dermot Crosby from the Department of Employment Affairs and Social Protection (DEASP) talks to Clare Kennelly from Inclusive Cork about all the grants and supports available to the Private Sector in Ireland to support the recruitment and retention of employees with disabilities.

This includes:

The EmployAbility Service

WSS - Wage Subsidy Scheme

DASS - Disability Awareness Support Scheme

WAM – The Willing Able Mentoring Scheme

The Reasonable Accommodation Fund includes:

WEAG = Work Equipment Adaptation Grant

PRG – Personal Reader Grant

JIIG – Job Interview interpreter Grant

ERG – Employee Retention Grant

Clare Kennelly is a Diversity, Disability and Organisational Culture Consultant based in Cork. Additionally, she is passionate about making Cork a leader in Inclusion.
